Harriers Open Season on Iowa State Course; Kate Crawford Wins Title

August 31, 2019

The results of Thursday's cross country meet, hosted by Gilbert High School and run on the ISU course, have not been made available due to a timing malfunction.  However, coach Colin Shawgo offered these comments on Thursday evening.

"Tonight we ran on the Iowa State Cross Country in the Gilbert Early Bird Meet. It was a hot, sultry day, but the kids did the best they could considering. For the girls, we started the meet short handed, having 4 of our top 7 out due to the County Fair and injury. That being said, the girls we did have ran very well. Many improved off of their performances from last year, and our crop of new runners were very impressive. Some stand out performances came from Kate Crawford, who won the individual title, Jorja Hoover and Mia Ocheltree, who both ran their first high school cross country meet and finished in varsity spots.

"The boys had a very competitive field to race in. There were some of the elite teams in the state at the meet, including reigning state champions Madrid, 4th ranked Earlham, 6th ranked DMC and 14th ranked Ogden. The boys team is extremely inexperienced, and it showed in the first meet of the season. Although we ran in a good pack, ran hard and placed okay, we know we can do better, and that was the main message post-race. This team has a lot of potential, and we are going to focus on bringing out as best we can in the next week of practice."

Meet results will be posted when made available.
