A popular song in the mid 1970's was Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Takin' Care of Business". There are a couple of interpretations of the song--one that it is about a hard working individual who works all day and the other is that it is about a white collar slacker who is unemployed. There was no slacking off in ACGC's volleyball win over Panorama last night, as the Chargers "took care of business" while sweeping the Panthers in three sets, 25-11, 25-13, 25-18. The match took exactly one hour from start to finish. The win marks the third consecutive three set sweep over WCAC opponents. Last week the girls took down Madrid and this week swept I-35 and then Panorama.
The Chargers never trailed in the opening 25-11 win as they dominated every facet of the game. Play at the net excelled with the likes of Chloe Largent, Alaina Bunde, Kylie Young, Saige O'Brien and Emma Kay McClain "taking care of business" with their kills and blocks. At the the same time the team got the sets and digs it needed from Audrey Stowe, Reese Coffman, and Olivia Laabs. Holding a 19-11 lead and with Largent at the serve, the Chargers score six consecutive points to seal the win. Included in the run were two blocks by Bunde, an ace serve and a kill by Largent, and numerous good digs and sets. The run was typical of Charger play throughout the set. Unofficial statistics indicate that the Chargers were 22 of 25 in serving for 88% serve success that included five aces.
The second set was much the same with the same Charger cast of characters doing the same things. Serving improved to 92% on 23 successful serves out of 25 attempts (again unofficial), while the team came up with seven ace serves. Ten kills aided the ACGC cause.
The Chargers held a commanding 23-12 lead in the finale when Panorama rallied to close the gap to 24-18 before a net serve by the Panthers ended the set and the match. Serve success dropped to 80% for the Chargers on 20 successful serves out of 25 attempts, with 5 serves being aces. The team recorded a whopping eighteen aces for the entire match, with Stowe coming up with 9.
The victory improves the Charger season record to 19-3 (7-1, WCAC). The team will travel to Anita tomorrow for the CAM Invitational Tournament that includes seven other teams. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 AM.
